‘Swim the Corrib – County to City’
On the 28th of June 2025, Galway Swimming Club is proud to be hosting the Longest Day Swim 2025. This charity river swim gives participants the chance to swim down the fabulous River Corrib, passing many of Galway’s favourite landmarks including the University of Galway, Menlo Castle, Steamboat Quay and swimming under the Quincentennial Bridge. This is a not to be missed opportunity to see Galway from a unique perspective!
The Event:
The Longest Day Swim is a timed, open water river swim for over 18’s which attracts all standards of open water swimmers and triathletes: from fun swimmers to elite athletes, all are welcome!! The event aims to promote awareness of the positive physical and mental health benefits of swimming, whilst raising crucial funds for this year’s charity partner, Claddagh Watch (https://claddaghwatch.ie/).
There are two swims available, with each distance having Male/Female and Skins/Suits categories. A 4km swim starting at Glenlo Abbey and a 2.5km version starting at the slip in Dangan. Swimmers will have to navigate their way across the Corrib from their starting points and then head downstream to the finish line at Steamers’ Quay (Woodquay just above the Salmon Weir).
