Prom Swim 2023 – 90 Years after the inaugural race – was held under glorious Galway sunshine on Saturday afternoon (2nd Sept) as the swimmers took on their respective races along Salthill Prom.

The Junior (U13) race was first up with all swimmers doing brilliantly to complete the course from Blackrock to Ladies Beach. For many this would have been their first time “sea swimming” but their first class coaching was clear to see as they all swam magnificently – well done swimmers you should all be very proud of yourselves!! Neysa Connolly started at the back of the field but came in 1st for the Girls while Bobby Persad held off some tough competition to bring home 1st place in the Boys Race – well done!!

The Senior races then took on the 1.3k course from the Blackrock slipway to the slipway at Salthill Park. Ailbhe Mulhall rounded off a fantastic season in both the pool and Open Water to win both 1st place and Fastest Time in the Women’s Race. In the Men’s race Coach Brian Desmond showed all his Open Water savvy to take 1st place whilst Kieran Watterson put in a fine swim to get Fastest time.

Huge thanks to The Committee and gang of Volunteers who planned the event and helped out on the day. Huge thanks also go to Club Captain Niamh Kennedy, Mark, Joe and Paraic who provided Boat and Kayak support. Special thanks go to Club President Eamon Caulfield and Paddy McNamara who are instrumental in making Open Water events run safely and smoothly for both Galway Swimming Club and other Galway sea events in general – we are very lucky to have you both supporting the Club.

See attached full results and see the photos section for more action shots of the day!
