GSC President receives Honorary Life Member Award at AGM

GSC President, Eamon Caulfield, was bestowed the title of Honorary Life Member of Galway Swimming Club at the Annual General Meeting, which was held at the Galway Bay Hotel on 12th October 2022.

Eamon has been hugely influential in the growth and development of the Club for over 40 years in both pool and open water swimming. His drive has helped the Club provide participation and national-standard competitive swimming to a huge number of children/young adults through those years. Eamon’s passion for open water swimming is evident through his energetic planning and management of the Club’s Annual Prom Swim and Longest Day Swim, where his knowledge is critical to their smooth running. Congratulations and thank you Eamon!

The Club also acknowledged the enormous endeavours of outgoing Chairperson Mark Gibbs and CCO Michelle Davitt, who will be transitioning out of her role over the coming season.

Mark Gibbs held the role of Chairperson for 4 years, through which he has provided strong leadership and support as the Club has steered through some very complex issues, particularly the COVID pandemic. Mark’s vision in growing the Longest Day Swim to include Olympic swimmers and combining the event with The Big Breakfast over a weekend, has ensured lifelong impressions were made on a huge number of children (and parents/coaches alike!).

Michelle Davitt has put a huge amount of energy into supporting the Club in the CCO role, but it is Michelle’s readiness to support the Committee and Club at large with other issues such as fundraising, organising socials and managing club gear which will be missed. Michelle is always first to put her hand-up when something needs doing and the Club is hugely grateful for your efforts.

Full Minutes of the 2021 AGM will be posted by the Club Secretary in due course.
